These boxes are then left there for a long time. Box freezers have an automated mechanism and they require less manpower. The main disadvantage of box freezers is that they cannot be used for all types of products.

  • Contact Freezers

One more type of freezing equipment is contact freezers. The main method of heat transfer used by contact freezers is conduction. In contact freezers, the food comes in contact with a cold surface and it is then frozen.

  • Cryogenic Freezers

Cryogenic freezers use different gases which are liquefiable such as nitrogen or carbon dioxide. These gases are used by cryogenic freezers for producing vapours and these vapours freeze the products.

  • Plate Freezers

Another equipment used for freezing is plate freezers. These are usually used for freezing flat products such as fish fillets, pastries and beef patties. They can also be used to freeze products which are irregular shaped such as cauliflower and broccoli. The main benefit of plate freezers is that the food is frozen quickly in them and they are very easy to install as well as easy to clean.

  • Belt Freezers

Belt freezers are of different types which include single, multi or spiral belt freezers. They use a vertical airflow and then the cold air is forced through a layer. The cold air is then distributed over the belt area. Few products that can be frozen in the belt freezers are meat patties, fish cakes and filets. These foods can be frozen or unpackaged.
