Where did I eat?
Zunzi’s at 108 E York Street in Savannah, Georgia.
What do they specialize in?
South African inspired sandwiches.
What was the vibe?
Loud, busy, hole-in-the-wall.
What did I eat?
The Godfather – sliced chicken, two types of sausage, lettuce, special sauce, and parmesan cheese, on a French roll
- This sandwich was massive and super meaty. I liked that there was a combination of three different meats inside and the sausage combined with the sharp parmesan cheese made it very flavourful.
- This is an extremely messy sandwich to eat because it is smothered in “special sauce” which is a creamy and tangy tomato sauce.
- I enjoyed the bread as it was thick and chewy and it held up well against the heavy sandwich.
The Conquistador – baked chicken breast, lettuce, tomato, and special sauce on French bread
- Compared to the godfather I found this sandwich to be a bit disappointing and not overly flavourful. If you are a big chicken fan and want something lighter you may like it, but I would recommend getting the godfather instead.
Final Thoughts?
I enjoyed the Godfather sandwich, but thought the conquistador was underwhelming. This is a good place for a quick lunch, but it wasn’t as special as I was expecting it to be.
