The Famous Grouse – Summer Cocktails

The Famous Grouse is a blended Scotch whisky that is branded as an affordable option for mixing and creating cocktails. It has a bright golden colour and notes of citrus. It is a mild and slightly sweet Scotch and I think this is an ideal bottle for beginner Scotch drinkers who may be intimidated by the more expensive brands and stronger smokier flavours. A 750ml bottle retails in BC for around $25, so it is very affordable.

The Famous Grouse

I was given a bottle of Famous Grouse and asked to make a Summer inspired cocktail with it. I decided upon the following recipe from the brand:

The Grass Kilt: Recipe created by Aaron Male

1.5 oz The Famous Grouse Blended Scotch Whisky

0.5 oz Pineapple juice

0.5 oz Lemon juice

Juice from 1/2 an orange

1 dash of Angostura bitters

Method: Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Add ice and double strain into glass full of ice. Garnish with pineapple cubes and orange zest.

You don’t normally associate Scotch with Summer drinks or fruity cocktails, but the sweet citrus notes in the Scotch worked well with the fruit juice. This is a really approachable drink and I think it opens the door for people who aren’t regular Scotch drinkers to experience this type of spirit. This would be a great drink to serve on the patio or at a barbecue during the Summer months.

Disclosure: I did not pay for the product.
