Sho Bu Japanese Noodle

Where did I eat?

Sho Bu Japanese Noodle at 25136 Lincoln Avenue in Coquitlam.

What do they specialize in?

Ramen and rice bowls.

What was the vibe?

Dark, small, cozy.

What did I order?

Kakuni Ramen – Tonkotsu Ramen with Pork Belly

  • The noodles were cooked well and had a bouncy texture and didn’t get overcooked.
  • The pork belly was really good and not too fatty. It was very tender and had a slightly sweet flavour. They also sell a pork belly rice bowl that I want to go back and try.
  • The broth was the only thing that disappointed me. It didn’t have the depth of flavour or richness that the more popular ramen places downtown have.

Final Thoughts?

For a suburban ramen place Sho Bu is decent, but doesn’t compare to the more traditional places downtown.

Omg I was at Sho Bu yesterday for lunch! I shared the Tonkotsu Ramen and the Chicken Negi Ramen with my mom, and I agree that the broth tasted rather one-dimensional. However, the toppings were well-executed. I might go back to try their sushi someday.
