Moderne Burger is a 50’s inspired diner located on West Broadway in Kitsilano. The decor in the restaurant is really cute and retro without being tacky or overdone. They have a very basic menu consisting of a couple of burgers and sandwiches, fries, and milkshakes. I like restaurants that specialize in one type of food and really focus on doing it well, so I was excited to try this place.
I had the burger platter, which consisted of a steak burger topped with lettuce, red onion, tomato, mayo, and special sauce with a side of fries.
I enjoyed the simplicity of the burger. I love excessive burgers as much as the next person, but I also have a soft spot for classic American style diner burgers. The bun was soft, the veggies were fresh, and the meat was juicy and flavourful. If you use good ingredients the food should speak for itself.
The fries were also simple, but good. They weren’t the best fries I have had, but they were by no means bad. Most of them were nice and crispy, although the occasional fat one was slightly soggy.
I liked Moderne Burger and I would come back if I was having a greasy burger and fries craving. Burger purists will enjoy this place, but if you like variety or more creative burgers you may find them boring.
Yes, for a simple, but good burger.
