Beaucoup Bakery is a cafe and bakery located in the Fairview area of Vancouver. They specialize in French pastries and nostalgic childhood favourite desserts. The inside of the cafe is cute and cozy, but there is limited seating.
I work a couple of blocks away from Beaucoup and I have fallen obsessively in love with it. French pastries are probably my favourite thing in the world, so I can always justify stopping by here for a treat on my lunch break.
The chausson aux pommes is a puff pastry filled with a spiced apple filling. This was such a beautiful looking pastry I almost didn’t want to ruin it. The puff pastry was buttery, light, and very flakey. The apple filling was very good. It was a bit sweet, but the aromatic spices like cinnamon added a depth of flavour.
Something I really like at Beaucoup is how they always have a couple of mini sized items, which are perfect if you need a small pick me up or you want to sample a couple of different things.
The petit pain au chocolat was my favourite chocolate croissant that I can remember eating. I’m not crazy about chocolate croissants when the chocolate inside is too hard and heavy because I think it ruins the lightness of the layers. In this version the chocolate was firm, but still very smooth and it melted in your mouth along with the layers of pastry.
I don’t normally order cookies at bakeries, but the petit peanut butter cookie caught my eye because it looked adorable. When I took my first bite of it, I actually stopped everything that I was doing because my mind was blown with how delicious it was. I eat a lot of good food, but this cookie is something special.
The cookies are so moist and they taste like the best freshly baked cookies you will ever have. The cookies are topped with a sprinkle of salt, which I loved because I love salty and sweet combinations and I think peanut butter especially goes well with salty flavours.
In between the too cookies is a sweet peanut butter buttercream filling. The filling is super smooth and creamy and takes these cookies to another level. This is a must try item if you come here.
Kouign amann is a buttery cake made with bread dough that has layers of butter and sugar folded in. I got the mini version of it and I had no idea what this was when I ordered, but it turned out to be one of my favourite things from Beaucoup and one of the best viennoiserie items I have ever had.
The kouign amann was slightly flakey, but more dense than a croissant or puff pastry. It was very moist and it had a slightly sweet and buttery flavour. I feel like this is something that pretty much anyone would like because of its delicious simplicity.
I ordered the cinnamon scroll kind of expecting it to be dry (don’t ask me why I ordered something that I didn’t expect to be that good), but I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. This pastry is like a fusion of a croissant and a cinnamon roll. The inside was a bit flakey, but the pastry was still pretty rich and very buttery. The cinnamon flavour was nice and it complemented the buttery pastry without overwhelming it.
The salted caramel blondie is like a brownie, but instead of using cocoa, they are made with brown sugar. This blondie was very dense and moist, which is exactly how I like my brownies.
This is the most indulgent brownie type dessert I have ever had. The brown sugar gives the whole thing a rich and sweet flavour and the salted caramel topping takes it to another level. I also liked the nuts on top because they gave it some crunch. This dessert is very sweet and I felt pretty sick after eating it, but it was worth it. If you are someone who doesn’t like really sweet desserts then don’t order this.
Beaucoup is currently my favourite spot in Vancouver for something sweet and I have never left disappointed. If you have a sweet tooth, you must visit Beaucoup.
Yes, for my favourite bakery in Vancouver.
