Suika is a Japanese restaurant on West Broadway that specializes in izakaya style dishes. They have a fun and lively atmosphere and really nice servers.
I have been here a couple of times before for dinner, but never for lunch. Their lunch menu is a bit different and they have more individual sized rice bowls and combos instead of just the small sharing type plates they have at dinner.
It was a rainy day and I wanted something warm and comforting, so I had the beef tendon curry pork katsu.
This dish was so good. It is one of my favourite things I have eaten in the past few months. The pork was very tender and slightly fatty on the inside and super crunchy on the outside.
I was a bit apprehensive about the beef tendon curry because I have never eaten beef tendon before and I didn’t know what to expect. I was glad that I tried it because it turned out to be one of the best curry sauces I have ever had. The beef flavour was really rich and it was perfectly seasoned. The beef tendon was super moist and the pieces were pulled apart and dispersed throughout the sauce. It really just reminded me of extremely tender stewing beef.
Before this last visit, I just thought of Suika as a dinner place, but their lunch menu is equally as delicious as their dinner menu. I love how they have more unique items than your average Japanese restaurant and the food is high quality.
Yes, for one of the best Japanese lunches in Vancouver.
