Fable Kitchen

Fable is a restaurant in Kitsilano that specializes in a “farm to table” concept. This concept essentially means using fresh, local, and seasonal food. The restaurant is owned by Trevor Bird, who was a finalist in the Food Network show, Top Chef Canada.

I recently came here for lunch while on my lunch break. The lunch menu is small, but they have a few different sandwich and salad options.

Turkey Sandwich

Since it was just after Thanksgiving, their daily special was a roasted turkey sandwich ($10). I can never say no to turkey sandwiches, so ordering this was a no brainer.

The sandwich was filled with both white and dark meat. The turkey was cooked perfectly and even the white meat was juicy. I have respect for people who can properly cook a turkey.

The sandwich was filled with lettuce, tomato, pickles, pickled red onion, and cranberry mayo. I liked the pickles and pickled red onion on the sandwich because they gave it some crunch and I think tangy flavours go well with turkey.

The sandwich was served on toasted sourdough bread. The bread was really good, but very chewy, so sometimes it was hard to take a bite without making a complete mess.

Potato Skins

Their daily side happened to be potato skins with chive cream. I love potato skins, but rarely have them, so this was a nice and unexpected treat. They were super crispy and a bit greasy (in a good way). The chive cream was the perfect luxurious and creamy pairing for the potatoes.

The food at Fable is simple, but well executed and flavourful. Normally in restaurants like Fable I find the food overpriced, but the lunch menu is very reasonably priced for being a nicer restaurant in Kitsilano. It I wish the lunch menu had a few more options, but I can understand wanting to keep a simplified menu.

Yes, for a casual, but nice meal.
