Mai’s Vietnamese Restaurant is located in the Walnut Grove area of Langley. They serve all of your typical dishes you would find in a Vietnamese restaurant plus some dishes with other Asian influences.
I came here with my Mom for lunch during the week and the place was packed. It’s a bit nicer and newer than your average Vietnamese restaurant, but it’s nothing fancy.
I had the rare beef pho. This bowl was good and satisfying.
To be honest, I have a hard time writing about pho, because I always end up ordering the same type and it usually tastes pretty similar.
The meat was still pink when it came out, which makes me happy. I hate it when it has been sitting in the back for too long and then the meat is tough by the time it gets to your table.
My Mom had the beef stir fry on egg noodles. This isn’t a typical Vietnamese dish, but it was actually pretty good.
The noodles were nice and crispy and everything was coated in a light, beef flavoured sauce that wasn’t too thick and corn starchy. The slices of beef were like the slices used in pho and they were tender and good.
Our lunch at Mai’s Vietnamese was satisfying. It isn’t anything mind-blowing, but the food was good and affordable.
Yes, for a decent bowl of pho in Langley.
