Voodoo Doughnuts is a very popular doughnut shop in Portland. They have a massive menu of doughnuts with a lot of special and unique flavours. They are open 24 hours a day and there is almost always a line up out their door and down the street.
Our hotel in Portland was right across the street from Voodoo so this post is a compilation of a few visits. Don’t worry, I didn’t eat four doughnuts in one sitting.
One of their most popular doughnuts is the voodoo doll, which is a yeast doughnut filled with raspberry jelly and covered in chocolate with a pretzel stake. Each voodoo doll has a unique design on top, so they will always look different.
These little guys are pretty cute and if you like classic doughnut flavours like jelly and chocolate, you will enjoy this doughnut.
The mango tango is a yeast doughnut filled with mango jelly and topped with vanilla frosting and tang. This doughnut was really good and it had a good balance of sweet and tart. The tang on top gave it a “tangy” twist that was unexpectedly good.
If you are a vegan they also have an abundance of vegan options. The vegan toasted coconut is a cake doughnut with vanilla frosting and toasted coconut. The toasted coconut was plentiful and added a good crunch. The cake doughnut was good, but not great. I always end up enjoying yeast doughnuts more. This one was a bit too dry for my taste.
I also tried a vegan grape ape, which is a yeast doughnut that is topped with vanilla frosting, lavender sprinkles, and grape dust. This was my favourite of all the doughnuts. I loved the touch of sweetness the grape dust added and the lavender sprinkles were a unique twist. I love it when lavender is used in food and I enjoyed the floral flavour it added.
I feel like Voodoo Doughnuts completely encapsulates Portland. It’s cool, weird, and delicious. Even though I hate waiting in line for restaurants, I was okay with waiting for voodoo because the line moves pretty fast and I love doughnuts. If you go to Portland, you must visit here at least once.
Yes, for yummy and creative doughnuts.
