Bob’s Burgers and Brew is a laid back burger restaurant that has locations all over Northern Washington. I’ve driven by them many times while crossing the border, but I have never tried one until a couple of weeks ago when my family was picking up something in Sumas and we needed lunch.
The Sumas location previously was a lodge restaurant and it is old, outdated, and a bit musty smelling inside. One thing that really turned me off was the taxidermy that literally filled the restaurant (I don’t think any of the other locations look like this one). While I am a carnivore at heart, I don’t want to look into the eyes of an old buffalo or turkey head while chowing down on a burger.
I ordered the rooster burger ($10.99), which burger topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles, pepperjack, bacon, and Sriracha sauce.
The beef patty was moist and thick and covered in a thick slab of melty cheese. My favourite part of this burger was the perfect bacon. It was thick cut, crispy, and smokey and they were generous with the amount of strips they put on. If you get a burger here make sure it has bacon!
I also liked the addition of Sriracha because Sriracha makes everything good. It adds a nice kick to the burger and I’m surprised this isn’t a more common burger topping in restaurants.
Aside from my qualms about the dead animals, I enjoyed my burger. I was nothing fancy, but it was filling and satisfying. They have tons of different burger toppings that range from classic to creative. They also have a few other options besides burgers, but I wouldn’t come here if you aren’t down for a hearty burger.
Yes, for a decent burger just past the border.
