Hon’s Wun Tun House is a Chinese restaurant that offers cheap food and fast service in a cafeteria like atmosphere. They have four locations around Metro Vancouver including two in Vancouver, one in New West, and one in Coquitlam.
I needed a quick and cheap meal on my way to school and since it was a cold rainy day I felt like some soup. My family used to occassionally go to Hon’s, but I haven’t been back in several years so I thought I would stop by and try it.
I ordered the wun tun soup with noodles ($4.85). I was immediately disappointed by the lack of broth and the fact that most of the noodles were dry and didn’t even touch the broth. The noodles had an off putting stale and old flavour and some of them were hard.
Hidden under the noodles were about six wun tuns. Some of them were put together pretty sloppily and were falling apart. The wun tuns were dry, flavourless, and over cooked. The inside was filled with a pork and shrimp filling, but it had no flavour other than the strong taste of pepper. The last straw for me was when I bite into my third wun tun and it was full of gristly meat.
I didn’t end up finishing my bowl of soup because it left a horrible taste in my mouth. For a place that supposedly specializes in wun tuns, I didn’t think they could be this bad. I would have been better off making instant noodles at home.
No, the food is gross.
