Dockside Restaurant New Menu Tasting Event

Last week I was invited to attend an event at Dockside Restaurant located in the Granville Island Hotel. At this event we had the opportunity to meet their new executive chef,  Simon McNeil. We also got to taste some wine and new menu items and to go on a tour of their in-house brewery.

We started off by being served a delicious scallop appetizer. The scallops were grilled and served on an oven roasted tomato and a little cracker and topped off with green onions. The flavour from the oven roasted tomato was bold and sweet and there was a nice contrasting crunch from the cracker. The scallop was so tender it melted in my mouth and it was the best scallop I’ve had. This appetizer was created specially for the event, but I think Dockside should consider adding this to their menu.

The first entrée tasting was the pacific snapper. The fish was flakey and cooked perfectly. The mango salsa on the side brightened up the colors and flavours of the dish.

The next tasting was the beef tenderloin with a side of mac and cheese. The beef tenderloin was juicy and had a hint of smokey flavour. The meat was topped with a wonderful cherry sauce, which really made the dish for me. The mac and cheese was creamy and had a strong cheddar flavour. This tenderloin was my favourite entrée of the night and everyone was grabbing seconds of it.

The last entrée tasting was chicken served with peaches and a yam croquette. The moist chicken was coated in spices and the warm sweet peaches went well with it. The yam croquette was crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. This dish was warm and comforting and like an upscale version of a roasted chicken dinner.

For dessert they brought out a platter of baked goods that included chocolate macarons, shortbread cookies, and little slices of white chocolate. The macarons had a rich chocolate flavour, however, I found the texture to be a bit too crumbly and not as light and airy as I hoped it would be. The shortbread cookie was coated in Hawaiian sea salt and pistachios. I love the combination of salty and sweet so this was my favourite dessert.

I was impressed with the food at Dockside Restaurant. The food was well executed and flavourful and they have something that will satisfy anyone. The dining room is attractive and has a light open feeling with a stunning view of false creek. They also have a beautiful patio right on the water and I will definitely be back this summer to sit on the patio.

    I looks like you had a nice tasting menu. The beef with the cherry sauce is interesting.

      The beef with cherry sauce was so good. The sauce was a bit sweet but not overwhelming. I would highly recommend it.
