La Taqueria

La Taqueria is a taco shop located on Hastings downtown. They have quite a local following because of their reputation for making authentic tasty tacos. The inside of the store is very squished and they only have a couple of seats to eat at.

For $9.50 you can choose a combination of any four tacos on the menu. I ordered (starting from the top left going clockwise) a pescado, a de cachete, an al pastor, and a pollo con mole. The pescado is a fish taco made with grilled seasonal white fish and topped off with pico de gallo and cilantro. The fish was excellent and fresh tasting and there was also a creamy subtly sweet sauce drizzled on it that went well with the fish. The de cachete taco is made with braised beef cheeks and is topped off with some onions and cilantro. The meat had a pulled consistency and was very moist. The flavours of the taco were quite mild but it was still enjoyable to eat. The al pastor is made with shredded achiote chilli marinated pork. This taco had the most spice to it and I loved the juicy pineapple salsa on top. Lastly, the pollo con mole is made with shredded chicken in a mole sauce. The mole sauce was heavenly. It was bold and flavourful and had a hint of sweetness to it and it exceeded my expectations of what it would taste like.

Overall the tacos at La Taqueria were delicious and I would eat these all again. I can’t pick a favourite because they were all unique and well executed. My only problem with La Taqueria is that the tacos are a bit small. It’s a good place if you want a snack or a light lunch, but if you are very hungry and looking for a meal, four tacos probably won’t do the trick.

Recommendation:

Yes for flavourful and authentic Mexican tacos.

These tacos are grossly overpriced. Complete rip off. I would not recommend.

You’re right, want cheap tacos? Go to Mexico, or make your own damn tortillas. For a taqueria in Vancouver, they’re pretty averagely priced, very authentic and super delicious 🙂
