Mom’s Grilled Cheese

Mom’s Grilled Cheese is a food truck specializing in comfort food items and grilled cheese sandwiches. They are located on Howe right beside the Vancouver Art Gallery. They have been open for a couple of months and I had been wanting to try them for a while. I finally got the chance to try them when I was downtown for lunch one day and they were very busy. My only complaint about this place is that they only take cash (might have changed by now?) but I never have cash and I waited in line and then realized it was cash only after I ordered so I had to run to the bank and then come back and wait again to pay.

Shot of Roasted Tomato Soup

I had heard that their roasted tomato soup was amazing and I needed to try it. Normally I’m not crazy about tomato soup but this soup is truly delicious. I just ordered a shot of it for a $1 to try and I wish I got the big one. It’s topped with a basil mascarpone which makes it super creamy. This is the best tomato soup I’ve ever had and definitely a must try and perfect compliment to a grilled cheese.

Sourdough Grilled Cheese with Pepper Jack and Bacon

They have some already made creations or you can make your own grilled cheese sandwich. I opted to make my own and I chose sourdough bread with pepperjack cheese and I added bacon to it. All of the sandwiches come in a little cone cup with a slice of pickle and some chips. Grilled cheese normally isn’t that exciting but this sandwich was great. They had the perfect crispiness of the bread and it tasted fresh. The cheese on the inside was gooey and soft and I liked the addition of bacon to the sandwich because it gives it a smoky flavour and makes the sandwich a bit heartier. This sandwich isn’t just your average grilled cheese and they obviously use high quality ingredients. The sandwich with the chips is actually surprisingly filling and I was quite full by the time I was done.

Pineapple Pop Shoppe

I saw the Pop Shoppe drinks and they looked good so I got a pineapple flavoured one. It was very sweet but I like sweet things so I enjoyed it. I liked the pineapple flavour because it was unique and not something you see everyday.

They also have some sweet dessert type sandwiches which I want to come back and try. I would definitely come back here for lunch if I was in the area and I highly recommend the tomato soup.

Recommendation:

Yes for an affordable comfort food lunch.
