Save On Meats

Save On Meats is a classic Vancouver diner on Hastings street. Last year the new owner, Mark Brand bought the restaurant and butcher shop and completely redid the inside and revamped the whole place. The inside now has a warm inviting old school diner feel that is clean and appealing. The menu features all of your typical diner favourites like burgers, all day breakfasts and milkshakes. There is nothing on the menu that is over $12 and most things are even under $10.

Coffee Milkshake

I have been meaning to try Save On Meats for a long time but something always came up when I was about to go. Knowlton and I finally got the chance to visit and I was very excited because Diners Drive-ins and Dives recently filmed there. We first ordered a coffee milkshake ($4) to share. The milkshake was extra thick and creamy. It had a subtle coffee flavour which I liked because sometimes coffee flavoured things are too intense and get a bit sickening after a while. It also came with the tin on the side so you could refill it with the extra shake.

Burger With Fries

We both opted for their famous bacon cheeseburger ($6) with fries. For $6 this burger seems too good to be true but it really isn’t. The meat was juicy and flavourful and the toppings tasted fresh. The burger may look small but it is actually quite filling and both of us were completely full once we were finished. I love diner style fries and Save On Meats really nailed them. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and very satisfying.

Overall both of us completely enjoyed our experience at Save On Meats and we were impressed with the combination of value and quality in the food. This restaurant lived up to the hype for me and I will definitely be coming back here to try some more yummy diner food.

Yes for a cheap but tasty diner meal.

I tried the burger and at $6, it’s delicious. I like how you can do half-half sides. The meatloaf (featured on Diners D&Drives) & mashed potatoes are my fave.

I didn’t know you could do half and half sides! I’ll try that next time I go.
