Jethro’s Fine Grub

Jethro’s Fine Grub is a diner type restaurant located on Dunbar street in Vancouver near UBC. They have a large breakfast menu that they serve up all day and for lunch they have burgers, sandwiches and some more unique items like catfish po’boys and alligator bites. This restaurant was recently featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives which spurred me to make the trip out to visit it. Diana from Foodology also wanted to try Jethro’s so we met up on a weekend to try it. This restaurant is small inside with only a few tables and they don’t take reservations. On weekends it gets very busy and people line up outside to wait for a table. We put our names down waited in line for about 40 minutes…the crazy things we do for food.

DDD

Guy leaves behind a little piece of DDD in every restaurant he visits. As a big fan of the show I was pretty excited to see the graffiti style picture on the wall.

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread French Toast

I was in the mood for breakfast and I normally order egg dishes but the chocolate chip banana bread french toast ($10) sounded too good to pass up. It comes topped with whipped butter, caramelized bananas and powdered sugar. I find regular french toast a bit boring but this was amazing. The banana bread was very moist inside and full of soft melted chocolate chips. The outside was nicely browned and crispy. I loved the addition of caramelized bananas because they enhanced the banana flavour and helped balance out all the chocolate. The whipped butter was also delicious and melted all into the french toast making it that much more delicious. This was a very decadent breakfast and I would recommend it if you have a sweet tooth.

The 426 Hemi Burger

Diana ordered the 426 hemi burger and a salad. The burger comes topped with cheddar and pulled pork and all the other standard burger toppings. Jethro’s pulled pork is pretty popular and was one of the thing prepared on the episode of DDD. The burger looked very good and it was a good size.

Overall I enjoyed my meal at Jethro’s Fine Grub. I like that they offer breakfast all day and they have some more unique breakfast items besides your standard eggs benny. The only downside to this restaurant is the long lineups outside.

Tip:

Get here very early on a weekend if you don’t want to wait in line.

Recommendation:

Yes, for a great and unique breakfast.
