Club Ilia

Club Ilia is a relatively new restaurant located at SFU Burnaby in the Cornerstone buildings. It’s one of the few locations that is actually a table service restaurant located on campus. I had never been before and Diana from Foodology suggested that we meet up for lunch.

The inside of the restaurant is quite modern looking with lots of wood accents. It was nice and clean inside. They also had really big floor to ceiling windows so you can get a nice view of the fountains and gardens outside. I had a hard time deciding on what I wanted to order because I didn’t know what I was really in the mood for. They have a variety of burgers, pizzas, pastas, and a few Mediterranean style entrees on the menu. We both decided to go with one of their specials which was a sesame crusted tuna sandwich ($13).

They brought out our sides first because they said that they ran out of tuna and had to wait for some to defrost. It seems unorganized to not have menu items available and ready to serve to customers but I appreciated that they at least told us why the food was taking a while and they brought us our sides to eat while we wait. I ordered the fries and they were served really hot and fresh. They were pretty good and tasted like typical french fries.

The tuna in the sandwich was seared and very moist. I liked the sesame seed crust on the outside cause it gave it a little bit of a crunch. The bread seemed freshly baked and was soft and fluffy with some bits of herbs and seeds. The wasabi mayo on the sandwich was actually quite mild but I didn’t mind because I don’t like really strong overpowering wasabi flavor. I liked that there was avocado on the sandwich which was a nice compliment to the tuna. Overall the sandwich was pretty good and impressive for on campus eats.

I enjoyed my lunch and it was nice to eat something on campus that wasn’t fast food take out. It was also great to meet a fellow SFU student food blogger! You can check out the review for Club Ilia on Foodology here.

Recommendation:

Yes, if you are looking for a more upscale place to eat and hang out with friends on campus.
