Yopo Cafe

One afternoon I was walking around Yaletown and I saw a tiny little Chinese restaurant called Yopo Cafe. There isn’t really much for Chinese food in Yaletown so I was intrigued by this place and came back to try it a couple days later. The inside of the store is very small, they just have a couple of tiny tables so it’s more of a take out place. The workers were friendly and it was kinda cute inside. Every day they have an entree special, a noodle special, or a combo special for lunch.

I went there on a Wednesday so the special was kung po chicken on rice and Shanghai chow mein with shredded pork. I went with the combination for both ($7.25). They also gave me their soup of the day which came out steaming hot and was a chicken and corn soup. I enjoyed the soup it was a nice warm pick me up on a cold day. When the entree came out I immediately noticed that it wasn’t very hot. Clearly it had been premade. The kung po chicken had no flavor and there was hardly any chicken in it. The noodles could have been good if they were fresh and hot but lukewarm noodles are not very tasty.

Overall I was disappointed in my meal. I thought that the food would have been more fresh. I don’t know if they premake all of their food because the menu is quite large or if i’s just the daily specials. I wanted to like this place but I didn’t and I probably wouldn’t go back since Peaceful restaurant is just a couple blocks away and for the same price you get hot fresh food.

No, the lunch specials aren’t worth your money.
