The Dirty Apron

In Gastown there is a cute deli and cooking school called the Dirty Apron. When you walk up the stairs they have their cooking classes to the left and if you go around the corner they have a large deli counter and a little grocery store with specialty food items and little cooking utensils. I could have spent a really long time looking at all of the stuff they had for sale but I was a bit rushed because I was on my lunch break.

They have a variety of sandwiches, soups, salads and a couple of entree specials of the day. I wanted to try one of their sandwiches and I had a hard time deciding because they have at least ten different ones and they all sounded really good. I finally decided on the prosciutto sandwich ($9) which comes on grilled fruit and nut bread with prosciutto, figs, watercress, brie cheese and balsamic onions. I really love prosciutto and brie so I enjoyed this sandwich. The balsamic onions were very flavorful and that was the flavor that popped out most in the sandwich. I also loved the bread it was really delicious.

I’ve heard good things about their chocolate pistachio brownie ($4) so I had to try it. The brownie has big chunks of pistachios all over top and the top is also marbled with cheesecake. The bites that had pistachio and cheesecake were great but I thought the bites that were just chocolate were a little disappointing. Clearly it was the toppings that made this brownie good and it wasn’t quite as moist as I was expecting.

I really want to back here to try more of their yummy sandwiches. I would also love to be able to look around at all of the specialty food they have for sale because they have some really cool stuff.

Recommendation:

Yes, if you like gourmet deli sandwiches.
