Donair Town

On my first mission to explore the restaurants of SFU I wandered into Donair Town in the cornerstone complex. Whenever I walk through the parking lot I can smell the heavenly aroma of roasting meat but I have never actually tried this place. I was very hungry when I wandered in here at dinner time and I was craving some good chicken. I decided on the chicken platter ($7.99) instead of a regular donair wrap. The platter came with a heaping portion of chicken on top of rice with your choice of salad, with a pita and hummus.

The chicken was extremely tender and juicy. They offered to put tzatziki, garlic sauce, and hot sauce on the meat and I went with all three of them. I really liked all of the sauces although I didn’t find the hot sauce that hot. The portion of rice was very big and I didn’t even end up eating it all. For the salad they have three choices, garden, greek, or tabboleh. I went with the tabboleh. I thought the salad was okay but it wasn’t amazing. I really liked the hummus that they provided, it was creamy and perfect for dipping my pita in. The pita was just your standard pita pocket.

I liked the chicken platter so much that I decided to come back a week later and try a donair. I ordered the chicken donair ($6) which comes with chicken, your typical donair veggies (lettuce, cucumber, tomato, red onions etc) and your choice of the sauces I mentioned above. The donair was really big for the price and the chicken was just as delicious as I remembered it to be.

I was pretty impressed with Donair Town. The meat was delicious and the portions are very big. If you want more bang for your buck go with the donair but I personally liked the platter a bit better because it came with rice and hummus. They also have plenty of falafel options for vegetarians.
