Glowbal Grill

For my birthday I got some Glowbal restaurant group gift certificates and I decided to use them at Glowbal Grill. Glowbal Grill is located in Yaletown and it focuses on steaks and satays. They also have a really good and reasonably priced brunch menu. I went on a Saturday afternoon to try one of their steaks. We were there during their brunch hours so they brought around complimentary samples of a mango strawberry smoothies, a piece of a crepe, and a basket of fresh mini doughnuts. All of the samples were delicious and they obviously know what they are doing because I bought the full size smoothie after I tried it. The smoothies are sweetened with honey which gives them a really pleasantly sweet taste. I have a weakness for mini doughnuts so I thoroughly enjoyed nearly the whole basket of them. They were hot out of the deep fryer and loaded with sugar.

For lunch I ordered the 8 oz tenderloin steak ($27) which came with a side of poutine. I ordered the steak cooked medium well and it came out perfect. The steak was so tender it melted like butter in my mouth. There was an orange sauce that was served on top of the steak, I don’t remember what the waitress said it was but it was really delicious and not your typical steak sauce. The steak was served on top of some roasted potatoes and turnips. Unfortunately I didn’t really eat many of these because I was so full from everything else. They were good but nothing exceptional. The side of poutine that came with it was surprisingly large. The fries were nice and crispy and they put plenty of cheese and gravy on them. I liked the gravy because it wasn’t too heavy.

While we were having lunch at Glowbal we had a celebrity sighting! Bethenny Frankel from the TV series The Real Housewives of NYC and Bethenny Ever After came into the restaurant while we were eating and sat a few tables down from us. She was in Vancouver for the Canadian release of Skinny Girl Margarita and we went to her signing later. Reality TV is my guilty pleasure so I was excited to see her in the same restaurant as me and of course I wanted to know what food she ordered (she got the cobb salad).

I really enjoyed my lunch at Glowbal. The steak was one of the best steaks I’ve eaten and I left very full and satisfied. The waitress was really nice and the inside of the restaurant is beautiful. I will definitely come back again.

Tip:

Go to Glowbal for brunch if you want free mini doughnuts and a variety of cheaper menu items. Also the steaks are a better value at lunch/brunch. Poutine comes with the steak on the lunch menu but on the dinner menu it doesn’t say it comes with any sides.

Recommendation:

Yes if you like good steak in a trendy environment
