Lombardi’s Pizza is a restaurant in New York City that specializes in New York style pizza. The restaurant is over 100 years old and it is the birth place of this style of pizza. New York style pizza is very similar to Neapolitan style pizza in that the is sauce made out of San Marzano tomatoes, however the crust is made with different ingredients and they are baked at a lower temperature for a longer period of time. The result is a crust that is more firm and bready rather than light and chewy like the Neapolitan style.
While on vacation in New York City it was one of my food missions to eat some authentic New York style pizza.
My family shared a large margherita pizza. I feel like the test of a good pizzeria is whether they can pull off a simple margherita pizza well.
This pizza was well executed and tasted great. The crust could have been slightly more charred, however it was still firm enough to hold up the pizza without it getting soggy. The sauce had a mildly sweet taste from the San Marzano tomatoes and the cheese was very gooey and crisp at parts.
I was impressed with the pizza from Lombardi’s and I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants a legit New York pizzeria experience.
Yes, for excellent New York style pizza.
