Gray’s Papaya

Gray’s Papaya is a little hole in the wall hot dog shop in New York City. The dive atmosphere is part of Gray Papaya’s charm and it is well known for its affordable prices and being open 24 hours.

Their most popular menu item is the “recession special”, which comes with two hotdogs and a drink for $5.

There was nothing too special about these hotdogs. I surprisingly didn’t really care for the onions they put on them as they tasted a bit too sour for my liking. Honestly, I would prefer a Costco hotdog over these for taste and value.

The papaya juice was also a disappointment for me. It had a mild flavour, but a rather chalky, gritty consistency, that I didn’t find very appealing.

The hotdogs here were pretty standard, but I guess you get what you pay for. For some reason I was expecting a bit more taste wise and I left with a meh feeling about Gray’s Papaya.

Recommendation:

No, the hotdogs are nothing special.
