Wafels and Dinges is a Belgian waffle street food vendor in New York City. They have several locations around Manhattan in cart, truck, or storefront form. You can order plain waffles, savoury waffles with crazy toppings, or you can build your own creations.
They serve both liège and brussels style waffles at the truck. Each waffle comes with one free topping or “dinges” and if you want more you have to pay extra.
I ordered a liege style waffle topped with speculoos and strawberries. The waffle was perfectly made and definitely the best liège waffle I have eaten. The texture of it was on point; It was chewy, slightly crisp, and the sugar crystals were evenly dispersed throughout the waffle.
The speculoos spread has a texture similar to peanut butter, but it is made with crushed up speculoos cookies. It is a bit sweet and has hints of spices like cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves. It isn’t as overwhelming as chocolate or nutella and it paired nicely with fresh strawberries.
I left Wafels and Dinges feeling impressed that a little street cart could pump out such delicious and fresh waffles. The speculoos spread is pretty special and definitely a must-get topping if you visit.
Yes, you must try a speculoos waffle.
