Pine State Biscuits is a restaurant in Portland that is famous for their biscuits. They were featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives for their amazing biscuits and crazy sandwiches.
I love some good Southern food, and Vancouver is seriously lacking in this department, so when I’m in the States I try to find good places to go. I came here with my parents for dinner while we were in Portland.
Since it was a hot sunny day, I ordered some sweet tea, which comes in a massive glass mason jar. It is definitely sweet, but still refreshing and a good pairing for greasy, rich, Southern food.
The reggie deluxe is a biscuit sandwich that comes with fried chicken, cheese, bacon, sausage gravy, and a fried egg. So it has pretty much every delicious and fatty thing you could imagine all together. My Dad had this and he really liked it.
The mcisley is another biscuit sandwich made with fried chicken, pickles, mustard, and honey. If you want something not as overwhelmingly heavy and rich, this is a good option.
My Mom had this sandwich and she really liked it. You can taste the fried chicken more in this sandwich because it isn’t covered with tons of gravy and cheese.
I was still feeling pretty full from lunch, so I went with the biscuits and sausage gravy, because I didn’t want something huge.
The biscuits are perfect. They are flakey and moist. When you bite down on them, you can feel all of the airy layers of buttery deliciousness. It’s like biting into a pillow of goodness.
The sausage gravy is also incredible. It is the best sausage gravy I’ve had. It is smooth and creamy with large chunks of sausage in it and it is rich, but not overwhelmingly rich. I would highly recommend getting any item here that comes with the gravy because it is a must try.
All of the items we had from Pine State Biscuits were a hit. They have amazing biscuits, which is vital if you have a whole restaurant built around them. They also have a happy hour menu in the late afternoon/early evening, so we saved a couple of bucks on everything we ordered.
