Babycakes NYC is a bakery that caters to dietary restrictions that originally opened in NYC. They have since expanded and they have a few other locations elsewhere, including one in Orlando at Downtown Disney. All of their items are made with natural, organic ingredients and they are all free of wheat, gluten, dairy, casein and egg.
I’m lactose intolerant, and while I have pills I can take that let me eat dairy, I am always on the look out for non dairy alternatives that aren’t as hard on my body. I was very excited when I saw this place while on vacation because it meant I could eat some desserts guilt free.
I had a french toast cupcake made with a cinnamon cake and topped with maple icing.
The cake definitely had strong notes of cinnamon and was reminiscent of french toast. The cake was good, but I felt it could have been more moist. The dense texture of it reminded me more of a muffin than a cupcake.
I really liked the maple icing on top. It was sweet, but not a make you sick kind of sweet that most icings are. I also thought it was the perfect amount. You don’t need an entire mountain of icing, you just need enough to cover the surface area of the top.
This cupcake was good, but not great.
The cookie crumble chocolate donut was excellent. It wasn’t an overly greasy donut. In fact it was pretty light, but still delicious.
The donut itself had a spongy cake like texture and it was very moist. The cake also had a hint of lemon flavour in it.
The cookie crumble on top gave it some crunchy texture and sweetness. The chocolate icing brought it all together and gave it a rich finish.
I loved this donut and I would highly recommend trying it.
The toasted coconut donut was made with the same cake donut as the one above. It was topped with a vanilla icing and heavily coated in toasted coconut.
I also really liked this donut. While the one above was sweet and chocolately, this one had a more mild nutty taste. If you are a coconut fan, you will like this donut.
I appreciate how Babycakes does something different and tries to make everyone happy. The cupcakes were just okay, but the donuts were really great.
Yes, for great donuts that everyone can eat.
