Last week I was invited to the opening of The Baker & The Chef on Cambie Street. In the cafe they sell premade sandwiches and custom sandwiches, soups, salads, and baked goods and pastries. The cafe is bright, modern, and an inviting place to stop by and grab a quick bite to eat.
At the opening party we were served a bunch of sandwiches off of their menu. My favourite sandwich of the night was “the Whistler”. It was made with focaccia bread, roast beef, red onion, Asiago and mozza cheese, and horseradish mayo. The beef was succulent and tender and the creamy horseradish mayo complimented it nicely. The focaccia was also very good and it tasted freshly made.
We sampled two types of soup, one was a clam chowder and the other was a beef and onion soup. Both of the soups were rich in flavour, but I enjoyed the clam chowder a bit more because of its smooth consistency and the large chunks of clams in it.
As far as desserts go, the favourite of everyone at the event was the carrot cake. The cake was super moist and full of fragrant spice flavour. The cream cheese icing on top was rich and creamy and there were hint of cinnamon spice in it. If you visit The Baker & The Chef, this is a must try.
