Ricky’s is a chain of diner style restaurants that offers breakfast until 4:00pm. They have a convenient location in Waterfront Centre food court. The inside has that casual dumpy diner feel to it.
Since I’m always craving breakfast for lunch, I ordered the chorizo baked eggs ($12). This was a mixture of chorizo sausage, chunky potatoes, peppers, onions, and cheese that was topped with two poached eggs and ranchero-hollandaise sauce.
The poached eggs were very overcooked and the yoke inside was completely hard and stayed firm when I cut it. The mixture below the eggs had too many potatoes in it that were a bit undercooked, hard, and flavourless. The chorizo sausage was good, however, there were only a few small pieces in the bowl. Even the hollandaise wasn’t great because it was cool and too thick.
The only thing I enjoyed about the meal were the potato wedges. They were crisp and seasoned nicely.
Knowlton ordered the bacon cheeseburger.
I was disappointed in my meal at Ricky’s. I love a greasy diner meal, and I feel like all diners should be affordable, and they should serve up a solid breakfast with properly cooked eggs. Ricky’s failed in both of those areas. It is severely overpriced for the low quality of food, and my meal left me feeling ripped off rather than satisfied.
No, the food is overpriced and bland.
