Restaurants may soon be banned from selling shark fin soup in Vancouver, Burnaby, and Richmond. These cities want to create a bylaw that would remove this dish from restaurants.
The sale of shark fin soup is controversial because it is believed to be the cause of decreasing shark populations. The way the fins are harvested is also controversial because the fins are sliced off the living sharks, while the sharks are thrown back into the water to drown.
