The Pantry is a chain of homestyle comfort food restaurants that has locations across BC and Alberta. While they don’t serve anything mind blowing, my grandpa always takes my family here for breakfast and it has grown into one of my guilty pleasures. The location in Maple Ridge was renovated within the last couple of years and it is comfortable and clean inside.
Every time I come here, I always end up getting the smothered skillet. The skillet is a mixture of mushrooms, red peppers, banana peppers, red onions, shredded hashbrowns, diced tomatoes and green onions. It is also topped with cheddar and jack cheese, hollandaise, and eggs anyway you like them.
I like how there is a bit of everything in the skillet and how you get to taste it all in one bite. I got my eggs scrambled and they were light and fluffy. The cheese and hollandaise added some creaminess to the dish, however, I wish there was a bit more hollandaise on it. You also get four slices of toast on the side and I opted for the pumpkin seed. I enjoyed this bread and it has now replaced sourdough as my go to toast here.
Overall, this was a comforting and filling meal. There is something about having breakfast for lunch that always satisfies me and this time was no different. They serve breakfast until 4pm every day, which gives them bonus points in my books, because not enough places do.
Yes, for a comforting breakfast meal.
