My mom and I had some time to kill in Langley so we went for Japanese at Miraku. Miraku is located in a small strip mall near Willowbrook mall. The inside of the restaurant was nicely decorated and quite modern for a small Japanese restaurant.
To start they brought us a complementary bowl of edamame. I wish they were salted, but I can’t really complain about free food.
Deep-fried california rolls are one of my biggest guilty pleasures so I had to get one. This one came out piping hot, lightly battered, and drizzled with a spicy sauce. I enjoyed this roll, like I always do.
The negitoro roll came out after and I wish I ate it before the other roll because it was a bit unimpressive. I liked the green onion flavour but the tuna was a bit too mushy for my liking. This roll was okay, but I wouldn’t order it again.
The gyoza were juicy inside and got nice and crisp on the bottom. Outside of that they were pretty standard.
The vegetable tempura had a larger assortment of vegetables than most restaurants have. I was excited to see tempura asparagus because it’s one of my favourites, and I don’t see it as often as I would like. They also had tempura broccoli, which was an interesting idea but it was a mushy on the inside.
The last dish was the chicken katsu. I liked the crunchy coating and the chicken inside was thin and juicy. There was just enough sauce drizzled over it to give it a bit of flavour but it didn’t make it soggy or take away from the crunch.
The food from Miraku was a bit hit and miss. Some items were tasty and others were a bit boring, but I still enjoyed the overall meal and the ambiance was nicer than many sushi restaurants.
Recommendation:
Yes, but only if you are in the area, it’s not worth a special trip.
