Pho Phuong Hong is a Vietnamese restaurant in Maple Ridge that has a variety of pho and lots of rice and noodle entrée dishes. The restaurant is tucked into the corner of a tiny strip mall and doesn’t look very exciting from the outside. When I walked inside I was surprised at how large and clean it was. I was also surprised at how busy it was inside on a week day and I saw many people come in and pick up orders for take out.
I was feeling under the weather and I thought a bowl of pho would be the perfect pick me up. I ordered the large Pho Ga (chicken pho) for $7.50. Instead of the beef broth used for regular pho, the chicken pho was made with a mild chicken broth. There were lots of big pieces of pulled chicken breast floating on top of the soup, however the meat was a bit dry. The soup was topped with white and green onions, but I was disappointed to see no cilantro. There were tons of noodles hidden under all the chicken and I was stuffed by the end of the bowl.
The standard pho toppings came on the side. The plate came with bean sprouts, Thai basil and a lime wedge. I like squeezing the lime in my soup and I always add some Thai basil.
Overall its not the best I’ve had but I enjoyed the pho and it hit the spot. Like most Vietnamese restaurants the prices here are pretty affordable for the portion size. I will definitely be back here now that I know there is a decent place to get Pho where I live.
